Q. 3 Short answer type questions.

pm. Why?
Answer : In India, the Air (Prevention and control of pollution) Act 1981, amendment 1987, includes noise as an air pollutant. Noise is an undesired high level of sound. Noise causes psychological and physiological changes in human beings. There is dire need of creating awareness about noise pollution caused during
festivals and processions in our society.

2. Tropical regions exhibit species richness as compared to polar regions. Justify.
Answer : There are three different reasons which explain why there is species richness in the tropics. Tropical latitudes receive more solar energy than temperate regions, which leads to high productivity and high species diversity. Tropical regions have less seasonal variations and have a more or less constant environment. This promotes the niche specialization and thus, high species richness. Temperate regions were subjected to glaciations during the ice age, while tropical regions remained undisturbed which led to an increase in the species diversity in this region.

3. How does genetic diversity affect
sustenance of a species?
Answer : Genetic diversity serves as a way for populations to adapt to changing environments. With more variation, it is more likely that some individuals in a population will possess variations of alleles that are suited for the environment. Those individuals are more likely to survive to produce offspring bearing that allele.

4. Green house effect is boon or bane?
Give your opinion.
Answer : Boon Because Greenhouse gases have just the right molecular structure to absorb infrared radiation that the Earth emits. It re-emits most of that infrared energy in all directions, warming the atmosphere to its comfortable average temperature of 15°C (60°F). So the greenhouse effect is a good thing.

5. How does CO cause giddiness and
exhaustion?
Answer : Symptoms of chronic exposure to CO include impaired concentration, sleep disturbance, emotional lability, fatigue, dizziness and hearing loss [3]. The most common source of CO poisoning in domestic setting is a faulty heating system.

Q. 4 Long answer type questions.
1. Montreal protocol is an essential step.
Why is it so?
Answer : The 1987 Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer is a landmark agreement that has successfully reduced the global production, consumption, and emissions of ozone-depleting substances (ODSs). ODSs are also greenhouse gases that contribute to the radiative forcing of climate change.

The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer aimed to ban the global production and use of ozone-damaging chemicals including CFCs, HCFCs and halon.

2. Name any 2 personalities who have
contributed to control deforestation in
our country. Elaborate on importance of
