About AcSIR :

The Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) has adopted the mandate to create and train some of the best of tomorrow’s Science & Technology leaders through a combination of innovative and novel curricula, pedagogy, and evaluation. AcSIR’s focus will be on imparting instruction and providing research opportunities in areas that are not routinely taught in regular academic universities in India.

It has been set up based on a ‘Hub and the Spokes’ model where the hub is responsible for centralized administrative functions. The spokes are located in the 37 laboratories and 6 units of CSIR spread along the length and breadth of India, which act as actual campuses for different subjects or areas depending on their respective specializations.

At present, the Academy has 2478 faculty members from CSIR Laboratories, 36 Adjunct faculty members, Over 3000 students enrolled in various programs, and 21 non-academic staff members.

Every year AcSIR As a tribute to the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) has named its two-month-long summer training program Kalam Fellowship program.

 

ABOUT APJ Abdul Kalam SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM

  1. As a tribute to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) has named its two-month-long summer training program as Kalam Fellowship.
  2. AcSIR, a research academy created by an Act of Parliament as an institute of national importance, offers a two-month training program at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) with a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 25,000.
  3. A total of 20 students, selected for the program from across the country every year, could undergo training at any of the 42 research laboratories of the CSIR.
  4. With subjects spanning wide areas of biological, physical, chemical, and engineering sciences, AcSIR programs help train students to innovate and conduct inter-disciplinary research,
  5. Summer Training Program at AcSIR provides an opportunity to spend one of your summers working at premier research Laboratories of CSIR with some of the leading scientists in India, in an environment that promotes trans-disciplinary research.
  6. The program is supported/ funded by AcSIR through its AcSIR-Kalam Fellowship.

 

AcSIR SUMMER FELLOWSHIP DETAILS

Total number of Fellowships: 20

Duration: Two months; Between May and August

Amount of Fellowship: Rs. 25,000 per student for the duration of the program (payable after successful completion of the training program and submission of project report to the Laboratory Coordinator)

Travel allowance to the selected student: Reimbursable to a maximum of Rs. 5,000 per selected student This is a compulsorily Residential Program where the selected students would be required to stay on the campus of the respective CSIR Labs on a charge basis.

 

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE APJ ABDUL KALAM SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM?

  1. The first year of the M.Sc program or equivalent: minimum first-class at pre-M.Sc degree level
  2. Third to the pre-final year of Integrated M.Sc program or equivalent: GPA 6.0 on a scale of 10 (up to IV Sem)
  3. The first year of M.E/M.Tech program or equivalent: GPA 8.0 on a scale of 10 OR GPA 7.0 on a scale of 10 for CFTIs at B.E/B. Tech level or GATE Score ≥600 or NET (Engineering) Rank from 1 to 100
  4. The third year of B.E/ B.Tech program or equivalent: GPA 8.0 on a scale of 10 OR GPA 7.0 on a scale of 10 for CFTIs (up to IV Sem)
  5. Third to the pre-final year of Integrated M.E/M. Tech program or equivalent: GPA 8.0 on a scale of 10 OR GPA 7.0 on a scale of 10 for CFTIs (up to IV Sem) or GATE Score ≥600 or NET (Engineering) Rank from 1 to 100

 

SELECTION PROCESS OF SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM

  1. The screening will be primarily based on a Research Proposal and other screening criteria decided by the Committee.
  2. An applicant can give five preferences for CSIR Labs/Institutes.
  3. Shortlisted applicants will be intimated electronically.
  4. Selection Interviews will be held at a central location. Appearance at the interview is mandatory for consideration.
  5. The applicant may be allowed to participate through electronic media for the interview (Skype etc.) under specific request.
  6. Selection is purely based on merit/ performance at the selection interview.
  7. Food and lodging arrangements shall be made for applicants called for the interview only.

  5. Plagiarism Check Report, certifying that the Research Proposal is an original Letter of Recommendation Non-Disclosure Agreement, for the information, records, etc. to be made available to the selected candidates.
  6. The application form has to be completed in all aspects for consideration. Multiple applications from the same applicant will result in the cancellation of candidature.

Note: Applicants shall be required to provide CGPA by the Percentage to CGPA conversion formula of their respective Institute.
(a) In the absence of such a formula, applicants shall be required to use the following formula:
CGPA = (Percentage + 5)/10

(b) Applicants with a percentage >= 95%, shall fill 10 CGPA.

If the CGPA of the applicant is on a scale other than 10, then the CGPA shall be required to be proportionately translated to 10.
