CGL Full Form and what does CGL stand for?

CGL’s Full form is “Combined Graduate Level”  The Staff Selection Commission is set to conduct SSC CGL Tier 1 and Tier 2 in June and September respectively. The recruitment examination is conducted every year by the Commission which provides a prestigious career option for millions of students who apply for this exam.

Passing the SSC exam can be a bit tricky, but with the right set of books, structured preparation, and practice, you can easily pass the exam. As per the new exam dates, the SSC CGL exam (Tier 1) will be held from in June  Since there is not much time best for the exam, it is in your best interest to focus on improving the level of your exam preparation.

Educational Qualification

Candidates should have a bachelor’s (graduation) degree from any recognized university/board. CGL Exam Pattern 

CGL is divided into the following four parts-

  1. Combined Graduate Level (Tier 1)
  2. Combined Graduate Level (Tier-2)
  3. Descriptive Test (Tier-3)
  4. Skills test

SSC CGL (Tier 1) 
In CGL Tier 1 Part you will get fourIntelligencespectively.

  1. General Intelligence
  2. English ComprehensiAwarenesstative Aptitude
  3. General Awareness

There will be 25 to 25 questions on each of these subjects. Each subject will be 50 marks. That is, each question will be 2 marks. The total number of questions in Combined Graduate Level (Tier 1) will be 100 and the total marks will be 200. You will get a total time of 1 hour to solve this part.


Combined Graduate Level (Tier 2)
In CGL Tier 2 Part respectively, you will get two subjects.

  1. Quantitative Ability
  2. General English

Each of these subjects will have 100- 100 questions. Each subject will carry 200 marks. That is, each question will be 2 marks. The total number of questions in Combined Graduate Level (Tier 2) will be 200 and the total marks will be 400. You will get a total of 2 hours to solve this part.


Descriptive Test (Tier-3): In this part of CGL, you will have to write Essay and Letter and you will have to write Essay and Letter in both Hindi and English languages. You will have to do this with the help of a pen and paper rather than a computer. For this, you will get a total time of 1 hour.


Skills tests: This part of CGL is taken for only a few posts. In this part, you have tested skills such as typing on a computer and computer information. If you want to clear this part of CGL, then you should also have typed and should have complete knowledge of the computer.

How to prepare for the CGL Exam

  1. Make yourself fully aware of the SSC CGL syllabus, exam pattern, and exam dates. This will help you to prepare for the topics covered in the exam and attempt more questions.
  2. Practice previous year’s question papers regularly as it can help you to improve your question-solving.
  3. Also, by solving previous years’ question papers, you will get a fair idea about the type of questions asked in the exam.

  5. The General Awareness section is the most important section of the SSC CGL exam. Therefore, to get more marks in the exam, prepare this section well.
