Animal kingdom MCQ for NEET
Animal kingdom MCQ for NEET
When you look around, you will observe different animals with different structures and forms. As over a million species of animals have been described till now, the need for classification becomes all the more
important. The classification also helps in assigning a systematic position to newly described species.
The two-kingdom system was given by Carl Von Linnaeus who divided the living beings into two kingdoms – The animal and plant kingdom. But this system failed as it failed to classify some organisms like Euglena. Then Ernst Haeckel proposed the three kingdom classification. Finally, RH Whittaker advocated a five-kingdom classification:-
1. Kingdom Monera
2. Kindom Protista
3. Kingdom Fungi
4. Kingdom Plantae
5. Kingdom Animalia.
KIngdom Animalia is the Animal kingdom consisting of all multi-cellular animals.
Classification of kingdom Animalia:
Kingdom Animalia is subdivided into several phyla, starting with the simplest development and going up:
- Porifera: sponges
- Cnidaria: small asexual animals like a hydra
- Ctenophora: marine ciliated animals
- Platyhelminthes: flatworms like tapeworm
- Nemathelminthes: cylindrical unsegmented worms, like roundworms
- Annelida: segmented worms like an earthworm
- Arthropoda: possesses jointed appendages; all spiders, crustaceans, insects, etc.
- Mollusca: calcareous exoskeleton; snails, mussels, octopuses, squids, cuttlefish, etc. (Some are without an exoskeleton like slugs, and some have endoskeleton like cuttlefish).
- Echinodermata: starfish, sea urchins, etc.
- Chordata: All animals in which an embryonic or persistent notochord is present.
How many questions were asked in NEET on Animal kingdom
- The animal kingdom is the 1st chapter that you encounter in Zoology.
- This chapter Should be strong as there will be 4 to 5 questions in neet exam
- YB Study module is much enriched in this chapter, with lots of facts and figures and this and that. The class and subclass given for each phylum are quite boring for students Yet, the main topic is somewhat palatable.
- We suggest you not waste your time. Instead, that read and just digest NCERT. ’Because 90% of questions from this chapter is bound to come from NCERT. For the rest 10% and AIIMS and JIPMER

Animal kingdom topic preparation tips
- First to clear the basic terminology otherwise there will be problems when you study the chapter further ( radial symmetry, bilateral symmetry, diploblastic, triploblastic, etc )
- To read NCERT phylum by phylum first and memorize examples as its examples are more important.
- After completing all the phyla you should learn the classes of each phylum which gives you an extra edge as you will be able to answer more questions
- After completing the chapter you should revise one phylum at a time this helps you to remember more.
- Focus on common names ( example Aphrodite- sea mouse ) ignoring this will be costly
- Revise revise revise
- Practice questions from our study (especially section B of our module )
- Practice some application-based questions rather than direct questions, matching the following type.
- Exceptions are very important ignoring this will be very costly
- This chapter Should be strong as there will be 4 to 5 questions in neet exam
- Give tests and analyze the mistakes you have made
